How Can Google Ads Help My Small Business?

You may not click on Google ads. Your spouse, family members and friends may also not click on ads. However, that’s a small sample size.

Roughly 65% of people have clicked on ads when they are looking to complete a transaction.

Google ad services increase businesses by propelling ads to the top, or bottom, of a SERP.

In 2021 revenue from Google ads accounted for more than 209 Billion dollars in revenue. The revenue from 2020 to 2021 jumped 63 Billion dollars in one year. Google wants advertisers to succeed, because when advertisers succeed, so too does Google.

According to a 2018 Google statement, for every $1 spent on Google Ads a business earned an average revenue of $2!

Google ads help position, newer companies and companies that do not have the same organic SEO domain authority (DA), that the sites that control the top organic positions.

When advertisers make money, so too does Google, this incentives Google and advertisers that want to generate and increase revenue. If a customer completes a transaction on a site after clicking on an advertisement, that customer is likely to return to Google’s platform for future queries.

With more than 92% of the search market global share and roughly 80% of the US market share, Google is the biggest platform for searches on the planet.

How Do Google Auctions Work?

Google sells ads at the top and bottom on search engine result pages (SERPs). For any given query, a chrome user may see paid advertisements ahead of SERP results that appear organically.

What is a Keyword Auction?

In Google ads, Google sells space at the top and bottom positions of a SERP immediately before the first organic result in a SERP, and below the last result for the query.

Contingent on a number of variables, Google assigns costs associated with top of bid and bottom of page ranges. The less competitive the industry, the lower the costs associated with a given keyword. Conversely, the higher the search volume and the more competitive the industry and keyword, so too are the costs associated with a keyword.

During an auction, competitors in a given industry select low and high bid ranges for specific keywords.  Google ad managers can set parameters for a given ad group and these ads then send traffic to a landing page or practice area page that is relevant to a query. Based on the rules associated with a campaign, Google will show ads that meet these pre-selected parameters.

When a user clicks on the ad, the business running the ad is charged for this paid traffic. The cost per click (CPC) is then debited from a Google Ad budget.

How Do Landing Page Quality Scores Impact Google Ads?

Landing page quality scores are a variable in PPC campaigns. Google wants chrome users to have a great user experience and return to the platform in the future. If a chrome user searches a query, clicks on an advertisement and then immediately leaves, this is a poor user experience

For any given query,  a respondent to an ad should be directed to a page that is relevant and adequately meets the users intent.

How Much Do Google Ads Cost?

There is no one size fits all answer to this question. Google ads are dependent on numerous data points and are heavily influenced and dictated by industry, market size, trends and competitiveness.

Generally speaking the more competitive the industry, the higher the Google ad cost associated with a keyword. High volume keywords in multi-billion dollar industries will cost more than keywords like “hot dogs near me”

Some of the most competitive industries in Google Ads include:

  • Legal industry
  • Medical field
  • Auto sales
  • Professional services
  • Insurance
  • Finance
  • Real estate

Generally speaking, the higher the population, lower the professional resources and higher demand,  the higher the cost of ads. Keywords like New York Injury Attorney can cost upwards of three figure sums per click, and in some instances keywords can cost four figures.

The vast majority of ad words however cost between a few dollars, and a few hundred dollars per click. It is imperative that an Ad Rank Specialist targets the appropriate keywords within budget that lead to conversions.
